Getting Started

To get started, navigate to Keywords under Research in the left navigation.

Keyword research is supported for over 200 country and language combinations on Google, as well as Baidu in China, and Naver in South Korea.

This article covers keyword research on Baidu. For other search engines, please see specific help articles for Google Keyword Research and Naver Keyword Research.

Enter either a single keyword into the text for related ideas, SERP competitors, and detailed keyword metrics, or up to 700 keywords at once (one per line or comma-separated) to look up search volumes for all entered terms. Click Go after entering keywords to get started.

After entering a single keyword, a high-level summary of the entered keyword's data is shown at the top of the page, along with related keyword ideas, and preview of the SERP. To jump to more details, click the Keyword Ideas or SERP Results tabs at the top of the page.

High-level metrics

At the top of the page, a high-level summary of keyword's data is shown.

Monthly Search Volume

The search volume of the past 12 months for the keywords is displayed on the top of each bar. If the historical data is not available, it will show the monthly search volume of the most recent 30 days instead. You can hover on the bar to check the search volume for desktop and mobile.

Organic Difficulty, CTR and Priority

Organic Difficulty score - Score from 0-100% indicating how difficult it will be to rank in the top 10 positions for the keyword. Based on the Page Authority and Domain Authority of the first 10 organic URLs ranking on the SERP, this score measures the quantity of quality of competitor backlink profiles. The higher difficulty score, the more quality backlinks you'll likely need to rank in the top 10 results for this keyword.

Organic CTR - The estimated percentage of clicks that will go to an organic result (rather than a paid results or rich results such as Knowledge Panels, Top Stories, Images, or Video results). A higher Organic CTR will typically be more attractive when targeting keywords for SEO, since this will likely result in higher traffic to your site given the same ranking position and search volume.

Priority - Score from 0-100% indicating the overall organic value of this keyword. As a combination of the above 3 metrics, keywords with a higher search volume, lower organic keyword difficulty, and higher organic CTR will result in a higher priority.

Ads, SERP Features, CPC, Paid Competition and Results

Ads - Total number of paid ads found on the top of the SERP for the entered keyword

SERP Features - A list of rich result types shown on the SERP. Common examples include Baidu open widgets, Zhidao, Baike, news, images, and video. See all 30 types of SERP features tracked in Dragon Metrics

Hover your cursor over a SERP feature for more information about the position and size of each result.

CPC - Estimated Cost Per Click of the entered keyword as provided by Baidu

Paid Competition - Score from 0-100% provided by Baidu showing how competitive ad placement is for the keyword, relative to all keywords across Baidu. Keywords without enough data may be shown as 0%.

Results - The total number of potential SERP results shown for the keyword on Baidu

Keyword ideas

Related keyword ideas for the entered keyword are split into three sections (Containing this phrase, Related topics, and Questions). The top 5 keywords with the highest search volume in each section will be shown on the Overview page.

Containing this phrase - Ideas that contain the phrase exact as it was entered. In this example, all keyword ideas here will contain the seed keyword "摄像头" ("webcam" in English).

Related Topics - Ideas that do not contain the entered phrase, but are related to this topic. In this example, related topics include ideas like "手机摄像头机 " and "摄像机的使用方法", but will not contain the seed word "摄像头".

Questions - Common questions searchers may asking about related to the entered seed keyword

To see all keyword ideas, click the button at the top of the page or view all next to any section to go to the Keyword Ideas page.

On Keyword Ideas, the same data will shown at the top of the page, but a list of all related topics will be shown in the table below.

Extensive filtering options help you find exactly the right keywords you're looking for.

A list of the most common words found in the keyword ideas will appear to the left.

To filter to only see keywords that include this term, click the + button.

To hide all keywords that contain a term, click the - button.

Multiple filters can be stacked together further hone your list:

This can also be done by using the Include and Exclude filters at the top of the table as well. Simply type each word you'd like to include or exclude, separated by a comma. You can even choose whether to include keywords with all phrases (AND boolean logic) or any phrases (OR boolean logic).

Other filters are available as well for Monthly Search Volume by all devices, MSV by desktop, MSV by mobile, and Word length.

You may enter a range to include by filling in both the minimum value in the From field and the maximum value in To, or simply only include one of these.

You can also filter by keyword type, but using the buttons for Contains this phrase, Related topics, and Questions.

To add keywords to a campaign, check the box next to each one, choose a campaign, and click the Add Keywords button.

SERP Results

Back on the Overview page, you'll find a preview of the top 10 SERP results shown below keyword ideas.

Next to each result is the Domain Authority, Page Authority, and the number of External Linking Domains to this URL, which can help provide the relative competitiveness of each ranking URL.

Click on a result to get even more details about this URL or root domain:

  • View in Ranking Research: See which other keywords this URL or root domain ranks for, and the estimated amount of organic traffic it receives each month

  • View in Link Research: Get a complete backlink analysis of this URL or root domain, including which sites and pages link to it

  • Open this URL: Opens a link to this URL in a new tab

To see all top 30 results, click view all.

Here on the SERP Results page, it will show all 30 results in the same manner as on the Overview page.

Click the export button in the upper right of the table to download all results.

Bulk Search Volume Lookups

Enter up to 700 keywords at one time to get search volumes, CPC, and other details for all entered keywords. Ensure each keyword is separated by a comma or listed one-per-line.

Data will be returned for all entered keywords, which can also be exported by clicking the button in the upper right of the table.
