JavaScript (not be confused with Java, which is of no relation) is one of the most common programming languages used on the Internet. While it is also used for server-side scripting, mobile applications, and desktop widgets, JavaScript is used to execute client-side scripts in the browser on almost every web page or web app on the Internet.

As it pertains to SEO, search engines in general do not crawl or interpret JavaScript code. Therefore, any content placed in JavaScript may be unavailable to be included in a search engines' index. While search engines such as Google and Bing can crawl and interpret some JavaScript, there is no guarantee they will be able to crawl the content successfully, and less-sophisticated search engines may not be able to crawl the content at all.
